Hay River

The town of Hay River, in the Northwest Territories, is located on the southern bank of the Great Slave Lake. It was founded around 1868, at the time of the establishment of a trading post and the arrival of the first missionaries. Later, many people arrived there for the construction of the Mackenzie road. There are more than 3 500 inhabitants in Hay River today and the town is quite important in the transport industry.
